Upon completion of testing, applications that successfully pass Java Verified™ testing are digitally signed by GeoTrust and returned to the developer via email from the Java Verified Program Office. The Java Verified Program employs digital signatures to ensure that Java Verified applications have not been modified after testing. The digital signatures do not affect application functionality in any way. Since the digital signatures distinguish Java Verified applications from all others, end-users, network operators and application distributors can be confident that the Java Verified applications they receive are the same as the versions tested.

Device manufacturer members of the Java Verified Program utilize Mobile Information Device Profile 2.0 (MIDP 2.0) security technology to verify that a Java Verified application is digitally signed before it executes on the device. If the signature is present, the application runs. If not, execution is cancelled. Note: MIDP 1.0 devices do not utilize this same security mechanism, and the presence or absence of a digital signature is ignored by the device.

For more information regarding the digital signing of Java Verified applications, please see the Unified Testing Initiative White Paper.
